Dr. Wade G. Douglas has devoted his career to advancing the art and science of surgery while elevating the standards of medical education and clinical care. Raised in Florida, he began his academic journey at Florida A&M University, later earning his M.D. from the University of Florida College of Medicine. His deep interest in cancer biology led him to the prestigious Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where he completed advanced fellowships in Head and Neck Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Cellular Biology.
Dr. Douglas launched his academic career at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, rising through the ranks from Assistant to Associate Professor, eventually serving as Program Director of the General Surgery Residency. In 2014, he returned to Florida to join Florida State University College of Medicine, where he now serves as Professor and Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.
In this role, Dr. Douglas mentors surgical residents, develops curriculum innovations, and guides institutional strategy. His leadership bridges clinical rigor and compassionate care, ensuring residents are not only skilled surgeons but also thoughtful, inclusive caregivers.
With a publication record spanning over three dozen peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Douglas is a recognized voice in surgical oncology, cancer disparities, tumor resistance, and diversity in medical training. His scholarly work includes studies on pancreatic cancer biobanking, head and neck malignancies, and the role of inflammation in cancer treatment outcomes. He is widely cited and respected for combining clinical insight with research acumen.
